Do I need an App to use iStick?

Yes - There is a FREE App called ‘iStick’ available to download from the App Store for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Work is also being carried out with third-party App developers to enable iStick to work on their apps as well.

Can you buy an iStick that takes a Micro SD card?
No - iStick encompasses its own flash storage drive for your data.

Does the iStick come with a case?
Yes - There is a convenient leather key ring pouch packaged as standard with the new aluminium iStick.

Can I copy/backup contacts from my iPhone to my PC/Mac?
Absolutely - it’s quick and simple to do thanks to the iStick app.

What about my music, do I have to go through iTunes?
No – You can bypass iTunes completely. Simply copy your music onto iStick and playback through the free App.

Can I copy music purchased from iTunes or imported music on my iPhone to iStick?
Unfortunately music purchased on iTunes, or music that you have imported into the iPod/Music app on your iOS device cannot be transferred to iStick. This is due to Apple's music sharing policies and also a restriction of iOS. You can however, copy iTunes purchases and other music stored on your PC/Mac to iStick and playback directly from iStick or copy into the iStick App.

Can you store and run iOS Apps onto the iStick?
Unfortunately Apple does not allow iOS apps to be stored or run on anywhere but on iPhone/iPad/iPod touch.

What’s the maximum file size I can transfer to iStick?
iStick uses a FAT32 file system. The largest file the iStick can process is 4GB.

Will iStick connect to my iPhone/iPad if I have a case?
This depends entirely on the case you have on your iPhone/iPad. Cases that restrict access to the lightning connector and the area surrounding it may mean that iStick cannot connect to your iPhone/iPad without removing the case. We recommend using a wallet case or similar.

What file formats does iStick support?
iStick supports a wide range of file formats including:

Video
.mp4, .m4v, .mpv, .mov, .mpg, .mkv, .wmv, .flv, .3gp, .gif
Audio .wav, .aac, .aif, .aiff, .caf, .m4a, .mp3

Why does the iStick cost more than an ordinary USB?
Whilst the iStick resembles and functions like a USB flash drive, that is where the similarities end. Normal USB flash drives do not connect to iOS Devices whereas the iStick has been specifically designed for this purpose. The marginally higher cost of the iStick compared to that of an ordinary USB flash drive is due to the implementation of the Apple Lightning connector and in addition the related to MFi certification and software/app development. iStick has to conform to strict low power consumption requirements (high speed active mode <90mA, low power mode <10mA) set out by Apple MFi regulations, as a result, every component in the iStick is a low power consumption variant which cost significantly more than normal non low power consumption components. For example only 10% of the flash memory in the market meet this low power consumption process requirement (19nm) and there is a premium on the price for this feature. The MCU computer chip in addition to being low power consumption also requires 10 times more RAM than what is typically found in other MCU, in order to meet iOS data transfer.
